Coach Kevin Meredith of Leeds, United Kingdom is co-founder of Fit2Thrive with his partner Louise Clifford. Kevin is a passionate martial artist who loves functional movement for sport and life. He also specializes in corporate wellness. He holds a purple belt in Jiu-jitsu and coaches adults and teens at GBRL in Leeds. Interestingly though, he has studied various martial arts and healing traditions in China for decades. His love for Jiu-jitsu did not interrupt his dedication to his traditional martial arts roots. For Coach Kev, they are related and will continue to be.
For Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month he and I have a great conversation about the his pursuit of martial arts from a very young age that has led to incredible adventures both inwardly and outwardly. He also talks about his studies in tui na massage (which is incredible if you have never experienced it!) as well as discussions on Taoism, Confucianism and other related philosophies and ideologies.
This is a truly fun eye opener for people from both the traditional and BJJ world. Coach Kev also tells some insightful stories about meeting the global sensation Shaolin Monk Shi Heng Yi (interviewed here by my stoic friends the Mulligan Brothers) at the Shaolin Temple UK in London. I bet you didn’t even know they had one- did ya? He shares his thoughts on the necessary convergence and divergence of his martial arts trainings and philosophies. I promise you will learn a lot more than you think. I know I did.
