Has Hip-Hop Lost Its Voice?

Exclusive with Rapper and Scholar Brother Ali, LIVE and Direct from Istanbul

Few rappers have had the unique journey of Brother Ali .

Brother Ali is a Minneapolis rapper whose conscious lyrics blend social justice, spirituality, and raw personal truth. Born with albinism and raised Muslim, he channels his outsider experience into powerful storytelling that resonates across cultural boundaries. Albums like "The Undisputed Truth" established him as hip-hop's most authentic voice on faith, struggle, and resilience. His Sufi-influenced philosophy and independent spirit have earned him critical acclaim and a devoted following. Ali's intimate performances transform venues into spaces of connection and healing!

He also has an amazing The Travelers Podcast where he interviews top tier artists and digs deep into what it takes to make art happen. He and I have been friends for years and despite not getting that much time in real life, to kick it- we are super tight.

This podcast bounces all over (but avoids being chaotic). We talk about what appears to be Hip-Hop losing its voice in a time of such global and social turmoil. At some point I tell a story about buying MF DOOM and Subroc a 40 oz. (I should have known way better tbh). After we dig into that, we talk about some of his incredible tour stories, including powerful reflections on Yasin Bey ( aka Mos Def), Dave Chapelle, and poet Amir Sulaiman (among others). Plus we talk about our mutual love of Muhammad Ali (he shows us an autograph!). He also talks about his preparation for his upcoming tour of the United Kingdom! Brother Ali is funny and insightful from front to back. Enjoy, share, comment and support however you can. We always have fun when we connect.
