Q&A on BJJ & Philosophy with UK Prof. Jude Samuel of Inglorious Grapplers

Jiu-jitsu, muay thai, museums, great food- nothing is off limits!

It’s very hard to talk about Jiu-jitsu in the United Kingdom and not hear the name of Prof. Jude Samuel. Roger Gracie’s father awarded him his black belt! Jude is a master of BJJ, a Muay Thai savage and his understanding of what to teach, and when- is uncanny. He currently holds a 4th Degree Black belt and is also a 2X IBJJF European Champion, a 3X IBJJF European medalist.

Jude is one of the most experienced and respected names in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He has been teaching for over 20 years, and his talent is matched by his knowledge of the sport. His accomplishments include being the first British Black Belt appointed by Mauricio Gomes, who was a pioneering figure in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Jude also used to sit on the UKBJJA Council as their Principal Council Officer – he works tirelessly to ensure that all BJJ players have a voice within BJJ Association governance structures. He is also founder of the Inglorious Grapplers team. This is a guy you wanna know. So I brought him on the show.

Jude and I talk about his early days in martial arts learning Wing Ching and Muay Thai, his intro to jiu-jitsu and his journey in BJJ. We also talk about the history of the UK BJJ scene, and negative rumors about the United Kingdom (like the food sucks!). We also talk about his idea that Confucianism is like BJJ in the gi, and Taoism is nogi. Just click the button and enjoy.
